My inspiration for this artwork was limestone and its significance to the Karst. I wanted to explore how limestone could be incorporated into printmaking processes, especially in etching. Limestone reacts with certain acids that simultaneously etch the zinc plate, so the combined etching of the plate and the fizzing of the limestone on the matrix create intriguing, experimental textures. The motif is derived from an abstracted detail I observed in the Repnič quarry, and the limestone used in the process was collected from various locations across the Karst.
